As cold weather sets in, it is important to protect your home from the damages of frozen water lines. That means it is time to winterize your exterior connections. These recommendations do not guarantee that freezing cannot occur but they will reduce the likelihood. In older homes, it is important to shut off the interior valve, open the spigot and disconnect the hose.... In newer homes, a frost-free spigot is installed. This connection contains a valve that prevents water from entering the chamber that is exposed to colder temperatures. In this instance, the shutoff internally is not as important. Instead, it is important to ensure the spigot is shut off and the hose is disconnected. #acapennsylvania #civilengineer #landsurveyor #sewage #septic

Winter is upon us! Have you ever wondered how pipes in a house can freeze? It is because a lot of basement environments allow cold air to enter and lack the necessary heating source to prevent the temperatures from dipping too low. Take a moment to winterize your house and protect your water and sewer lines. ACA is a full-service civil engineering firm, with a niche in on-site sewage inspection and design. This week is part four of our seven-part series on land use planning. Now that we have looked at zoning and the zoning officer, let's take a look at the next vital part. When you need to appeal a decision of the zoning officer or are looking for relief from a zoning ordinance, you present to the zoning hearing board. So, let's take some time to get to know this quasi-judicial body and how it functions: www.all-county-assoc.com/zoning-hearing-board/ To learn more about All Co...unty and Associates, visit us at www.all-county-assoc.com. Yesterday's heavy rain was a reminder of the impacts of the fall and winter on our stormwater systems. A lot of the roadway ponding related to inlet grates being clogged with leaves. It is important that when doing your property maintenance that you keep leaves and snow away from the inlets. Always remember when it rains, the leaves will float with the water to the inlet grate. Thanks to the team at Philadelphia Water Department for the great illustration!... #acapennsylvania #stormwater
