AAHS COVID19 UPDATE 10/26/2020 Dear Wildcat Parents/Guardians, We were recently made aware that a student in the Athens Area High School is confirmed positive for COVID-19. We are sending our best wishes to this student and their family. Please understand that the health information, including the names of the positive cases, is confidential to protect their privacy. The Department of Health has confirmed that there was NO direct school exposure. The student was l...ast in the AAHS on Monday, October 19th. The Department of Health confirmed from their investigation that there was no direct school exposure to students or staff within the high school. Overall, we have had 10 COVID-19 cases within our student body or faculty/staff this year. Currently, only 5 cases are still considered active and under a quarantine or isolation. The rest of the individuals have fully recovered and have returned to school/work. As a community, it is critical that we continue to do all we can to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 for the health and safety of our students and staff. In the recent weeks, Bradford County has seen an uptick in cases and has been identified as a county in the Substantial level. Our priority is to keep schools open to our students for as long as it is safe for our students and staff to do. For additional questions about COVID-19, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Health website at health.pa.gov. If you have any questions or concerns about the information contained in this letter, please contact our building principals at any time. Sincerely, Craig Stage Superintendent Athens Area School District See more

We have completed a deep cleaning of the area where the sick staff member works, completed our contact tracing and spoken to the Bradford County Department of Health. At this time, there is no need to remain closed, therefore, we will be open for in-person instruction again starting tomorrow Tuesday, October 27th. Thank you for your patience and we appreciate your support as we continue to make decisions in the best interest of our students, faculty, and staff.

Important Message from AASD Dear Wildcat Family, This message is to inform you that Lynch Bustin will be closed tomorrow Monday, October 26th due to a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19. We were informed late this afternoon that a staff member at Lynch-Bustin Elementary has tested positive. As a district we need time to review with the Department of Health the necessary steps for contact tracing and/or exposure to students and staff. I sincerely apologize for... the late notification and I know the stress that this puts families under, but it is pertinent for us to perform the necessary steps to keep our students and staff safe. Students should live stream if possible. Check your See Saw or Schoology account for your schedule. If anyone needs any assistance, please contact the Lynch-Bustin principal’s office (570) 888-7766 and they will assist you with your needs. All other buildings will remain open and classes will be held as normal at those buildings. Craig Stage Superintendent of Schools Athens Area School District See more

~Reminders for Students Participating in Live Stream Instruction~ Please dress appropriately to participate in your Zoom sessions. Be on time for your Zoom sessions. ... Make sure that your video is on during your Zoom session and that the screen is pointed towards your face. Be mindful of background noise. If necessary, mute your microphone when not speaking. Raise your hand or use the signal that your teacher has identified for you to use when you want to answer a question or participate in a class discussion. Be sure to respond verbally or in the chat box to teacher during instruction. Stay in one spot during your online sessions. It is distracting for others if you are moving from space to space during the Zoom session. Find a quiet space to work with few distractions. Be sure to click on ‘Leave Meeting’ when your Zoom session is over.

SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION EXPECTATIONS HEALTH & SAFETY REMINDERS As our community continues to see an increase in the spread of COVID-19, we felt it necessary to re-emphasize the expectations for riders and drivers of district-provided transportation. Our district’s health and safety plan requires all students and drivers to wear an acceptable face covering that covers the mouth and nose when entering, riding, and exiting any school-provided transportation. Please make sure ...your student has an acceptable face covering on when boarding any school vehicle. If they do not, one will be provided by the driver. Refusal/Failure to properly wear a face-covering (without a previously documented exception) will result in a disciplinary process that may include the re-evaluation of the type and method of transportation service for your student. All drivers and attendants must wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while in direct contact with your student. The driver may remove their face covering briefly during operation, if and only if, the removal is necessary for facilitating the safe operation of the vehicle. Hand sanitizer is available on district transportation and the windows should be open at least one-inch for increased ventilation when possible. Be assured all vehicles are cleaned after each transportation run with EPA-approved disinfectant. Thank you for your assistance as we diligently work toward keeping everyone safe and healthy. Should you have questions or concerns, please contact your student’s building administrator or the Transportation Department at (570) 882-6203.
